Don't miss the 2009 Flora London Marathon
17th April 2009
The 2009 Flora London Marathon is taking place on Sunday 26 April.
The race is now established among the major events in the sporting calendar, shown on television in more than 150 countries around the world. This year a record 155,000 entries have been received and places awarded to 49,995 runners. Among the many celebrities taking part are Gordon Ramsey, Ronan Keating, Katie Price and Peter Andre.
The 26-mile course starts in Blackheath, heads east through Charlton and Woolwich for three miles, turns west and passes the Cutty Sark in Greenwich after six to seven miles. It crosses the River Thames at Tower Bridge and then loops around the east end of London, past Canary Wharf, before heading west again along The Highway and the Embankment to Parliament Square, Birdcage Walk and the final corner in front of Buckingham Palace.
Whether you are running in the race or not, the Flora London Marathon Exhibition is a must for anyone interested in running and fitness. This year's exhibition will be the biggest ever; all the major athletic brands will be present as will be a multitude of other exhibitors selling everything from socks to global navigation devices to the latest niche products and everything in between.
The exhibition is open on 22 April from 1100 to 2000, on 23 and 24 April from 1000 to 2000, and on 25 April from 0900 to 1700, and entrance is free. With 15,000 visitors expected on weekdays and 25,000 on Saturday, you may want to consider coming during the week to avoid the Saturday rush. If you come on Saturday the advice is the earlier the better, 0900 to 1100 is the quietest time.
