Growing for the future

20th August 2008

To keep pace with growing passenger numbers, London City Airport has submitted a planning application to increase flight movements to 120,000 per annum from the current level of 80,000. This will enable the Airport to handle 3.9 million passengers a year by 2010.

The availability of additional flights will also allow airlines to introduce more frequent flights as well as expand their route network to destinations not currently served from the Airport.

The growth can be accommodated entirely within the Airport's current facilities and physical planning permissions, without the need for additional runways or new terminal buildings and with no change to operating hours.

Commenting on the plans, London City Airport Chief Executive Richard Gooding said: "The growth of the Airport ensures we can serve the visitors who are attracted to the area as it rapidly develops. We will, of course, continue our substantial commitment to community relations. We look forward to continuing our successful local recruitment policy to fill the additional 1,000 jobs that will be generated if this application is granted."
