New aircraft stands for London City Airport

6th June 2007

London City Airport is set to benefit from nearly £20 million of investment to fund the largest building project in the airport's history.

The construction of additional parking stands is the first major capital programme under new owners AIG Financial Products Corp. (AIG-FP) and Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), who took control of the airport in December 2006.

Support services and construction company Carillion has won the contract to construct a 20,000 m2 concrete platform, supported by piles and built over the King George V dock to the east of the existing terminal. When complete it will provide four aircraft stands, bringing the total up to 18. The new stands will be in service during summer 2008.

In addition, a sound screen will be incorporated to minimise any effect of aircraft operations on neighbouring houses.
